Hey everyone! Fire up your iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches – our new iOS app is out and this isn’t your normal everyday update. We stocked this baby to the brim with improvements you’ve requested, so much so that you need even less of a reason to ever be in front of a computer.
Links for everything, enabling easier sharing
Have you ever been responding to an email on your iPhone and iPad and realized that you need to attach an important file? This is a real challenge when the file is trapped on your computer back at the office. SugarSync has this covered with our new iOS app – now you can grab a public link to ANY file in your SugarSync account, right from your iPhone or iPad. Just go to the file in SugarSync, copy the link, and paste it in your email. The person you’re sending the email to doesn’t need to be a SugarSync user to download it, and you can send files of nearly any size.
To copy a public link for a file to your clipboard:
1. Navigate to the file that you want a link for.
2. Click on the blue arrow next to the file.
3. Choose Copy Link to Clipboard.
This feature also works great for sharing files to other apps, including Facebook and Twitter.
A remote control for your computers
You’re used to being able to organize and manage your files and folders on your computer. Why not on the go? SugarSync for iOS now lets you copy, move and even delete files or folders. Need to copy several large folders from one computer to another? No problem. Need to delete those questionable photos of your Vegas trip before your roommate sees it? Got you covered. Need to share those four huge video files, but you left your computer turned off at home? Done. It is like you now have a super-charged remote control for all of your computers.
To take an action on multiple files or folders:
1. Click on the action button in the upper right.
2. Choose Select Items.
3. Tap each item you want to select. A red checkmark appears next to it.
4. Choose Share, Copy, Move, or Delete. That’s it!
In addition, anytime you share anything (files, folders, referrals – more on that later), SugarSync will use the native email application on your iOS device. This simplifies sharing since you can use the address book already on your device and don’t need to remember email addresses. Plus, everything you share is saved to your Sent Mail folder, so it easy to keep track of what got shared.
Your favorite photos, your favorite tunes, always there for you
I don’t know about you, but I wish my iPhone or iPad photo gallery had on it all of my favorite pictures, not just the ones I took using the camera on the device. The childhood ones, the birthday ones, the ones from college where I had the weirdo haircut – you know, the keepers. Today to get my classic photos, I have email them to myself and save it to the device. Hassle!
Well, I’m happy to tell you that the new iOS app changes that. Now you can save any photo that’s in your SugarSync account directly to the photo gallery on your Apple device. Here’s how:
1. Go to the photo you want to save to your Apple device in SugarSync.
2. Click the action button in the upper right and choose Send to Camera Roll.
That’s all there is to it — the photo is now in your device’s photo gallery.
In addition, we’ve added some love to music aficionados. Now the SugarSync music player works in the background, allowing you to play your music when you are doing other things in the app like sharing or downloading files… or even if you are using other apps. So go on, tweet, email, or Facebook away and SugarSync’s music player will keep the beats coming.
Everything else is easier
When your app is speedy, secure, and stable, everything is easier. We invested a lot of time to make the app better at the basics. For starters, we rebuilt many of the features from the ground up (and fixed bugs along the way), making it faster and more stable. Unlike many of our competitors, we continue to use HTTPS secure transfer protocol to send files from your iPhone/iPad to and from the cloud, so you can rest easy knowing your files are safe and secure.
In addition, we now make it easier to get help when you get stuck. In the settings page, we added a section called Help. Tap on it and you’ll see a list of frequently asked questions.
Many of you want to share the SugarSync service, and earn free storage, from your mobile device. Good news: you can send referrals and earn free storage right from the app. Just click on the wrapped-present icon on the home page and choose Refer a Friend. A pre-filled email opens with your referral link ready to send. When people you invite join, you both get 500MB when it’s a free account, and a whopping 10GB for each paid account! Rinse and repeat to rake it in.
There are a few more features we added, but we’ll stop for now. As always, please let us know what you think. Thank you for your continued feedback and support.
